Frontline council staff recognised for their outstanding work at glittering awards ceremony
The Council Worker of the Year Awards 2009 took place at the end of the LGA's annual conference in Harrogate. 44 finalists in ten categories mingled with ministers and local government executives at the only awards ceremony that recognises the efforts of front-line council staff.
Hosted by broadcaster Jeremy Vine and featuring an address from new Communities & Local Government Secretary, John Denham, the real stars were the council workers themselves - as the Local Government Channel reports.
