Naomi Biggs
Thanet Coastal Project Education Officer
Thanet District Council
Thanet Coast Project works with people to safeguard coastal wildlife. To promote this work Naomi set up a groundbreaking project, the Thanet Coastal Warden Scheme. Volunteers adopt a stretch of coastline and act as its 'eyes and ears', collecting information about how people use the coastline, details of wildlife and reporting damage or pollution. The scheme quickly grew beyond the original predictions, over 100 wardens now in place. The scheme is seen as a model of good practice, with other authorities and looking to take a similar approach.
