How they are being affected
Like those in urban areas, rural communities are being hit hard by the credit crunch and rising prices. Last month, MPs criticised DEFRA for not giving enough support to rural areas and for a general lack of understanding of rural economies and their potential. Local Government Channel presenter Sam Hughes talks to Matt Griffith from the Commission for Rural Communities and Cllr David Rowlands, Deputy Leader of Cheshire County Council about the problems and what should be done.
