NOMINATIONS OPEN – COUNCIL WORKER OF THE YEAR AWARDS 2010

The Local Government Channel is pleased to announce that nominations in the Council Worker of the Year Awards 2010 are now open. The awards champion the unsung heroes of local government – those council workers who go above the call of duty on a daily basis. Anyone, including the public, can nominate a council employee by 24 February, 2010.

Download nomination guidelines and forms here.

This year's categories are: Green Award, Community Engagement, Working with Young People, Team of the Year, Bravery and Lifetime Service.

From 10 May, 2010 when the finalists are announced, it's over to the public to decide who should win in each category. Films of all the finalists and their achievements will be broadcast at www.localgovernmentchannel.com and on Local Government Today on the Community Channel every morning at 6.30am on Sky 539, Virgin TV 233 and Freeview 87.

The winners will be announced on 08 July 2010 at an Awards Gala Dinner, which marks the end of the LGA Annual Conference in Harrogate.  They will receive an engraved trophy and a cheque for £200.

Chairman of the Local Government Association, Cllr Margaret Eaton said: "There are hundreds of thousands of Council employees across this country who work to improve their local areas every single day. Each council can give their own examples of staff members who routinely go above and beyond the call of duty in their service to the community. The Council Worker of the Year Awards provide a much needed opportunity to recognise some of the outstanding contributions made by local authority staff."
