David Lawson
Park & Street Care Operative, Gedling Borough Council
After leaving school in 1964 David started working at Arnold U.D.C. as a highway labourer and over the next 25 years developed skills in highway construction, maintenance and street cleansing activities. Early one Saturday morning, whilst carrying out his regular weekend cleaning duties, he was attacked by a man who was intent on stealing his council van. David attempted to prevent the theft, but suffered severe leg injuries which have left him with walking difficulties and made heavy duties impossible. Determined to carry on working, he took on the new task of emptying the 500 dog bins installed throughout the borough. Despite being in constant pain David is one of our most dedicated and reliable employees. He is honest, enthusiastic, always striving to improve and is respected and popular with colleagues. Over the past 44 years he has made an outstanding contribution to the council.
