Syd Carr
Handy Person, Alnwick District Council
Syd Carr describes himself as 24-hour Syd because, barring holidays abroad, he is always available for Alnwick District Council duties. He has been employed by the council for 30 years in a variety of tasks. He is currently a full-time handyman but undertakes additional after-hours work in emergencies or for duties such as street cleaning. He is popular with the public and nothing is too much trouble for him. One election time, he even camped overnight in a hall to protect ballot papers from thieves. He and three colleagues were once judged the second fastest bin men in the North.
