Martin's nomination recognises his relentless drive and persistence in developing 'Changing Place' toilets in Nottingham transforming the lives of people with profound multiple learning disabilities and their carers. Martin identified a major barrier facing carers. Using his experience, knowledge, networking skills, humour and enthusiasm he went on a mission to directly improve peoples lives. Nottingham's 'Changing Place Toilet' opened in July 2006 and immediately gained a 5 star, Loo of the Year Award, and the concept is trying to be taken nationwide.
