Leo McMulkin - Winner!
Sustainability and Energy Management Group Leader, Birmingham City Council
Leo McMulkin is pioneering Birmingham's low carbon future and putting the city's innovation in sustainability on the international stage.
As sustainability and energy management group leader for Birmingham City Council, he leads officers and public/private sector partners in incorporating sustainability into the city's services and infrastructure. He is committed to making a difference in Birmingham, and driving forward the city's ambitious plan to reduce its carbon emissions by 60% by 2026.
The city centre combined heat and power system has been one of Leo's major successes. The system - one of the largest in the UK - recycles heat, produced from electricity generation, into key buildings, delivering substantial reductions in CO2 emissions.
Leo is dedicated to achieving a better, greener Birmingham, promoting the project to government and at national and international conferences. He has created a model of best practice, with the scheme receiving a Queen's Award for Enterprise.
